Liz Morison
I have always been interested in the human form, and during my BA I started to explore the metaphor of clay as a body. Hanging and folding wet clay slip in different fabric skins, made shapes that also took a skin or pelt from the textiles.
During the research and experimentation for my MFA I started to analyse the relationship between the body, the mind and an object, the feel of something, the memory of something and how we are or become attached.
Donald Winnicott a Paediatrician and Child Psychoanalyst, described the comforting cuddly blanket, bit of cloth or teddy that a child fixates on to, as the Transitional Object. I began to make transitional objects for adults.
My response to the Clydach Gorge is still developing, ideas being thrown up and then rearranged or discarded, like giant earth moving equipment scoring and reconfiguring.
I was very moved by one of the group discussions we had about memory and the Clydach Gorge. The length of time of construction has resulted in a proportion of the community who has never known anything different.
I make films and interactive objects.
